Marilyn
Monroe born Norma Jeane Mortensen was born at 9:30 a.m. on June 1st, 1926,
at California’s Los Angeles General Hospital to Gladys Pearl Monroe Baker.
Her father was identified as Edward Mortensen, yet it is unknown if that is
her father. Marilyn Monroe is twentieth century’s most famous movie star,
sex symbol, and pop icon. Before she hit fame, Monroe lived in poverty,
spent most of her childhood in foster homes and orphanages, while her mother
was in and out of mental hospitals. As Norma Mortensen, (Monroe) began her
stardom when she was recruited to do magazine modeling. She did most of her
films for 20th Century Fox and gained tremendous amount of superstardom. Her
popularity led to her name change to Marilyn Monroe. Marilyn is known to
have been in a relationship with first husband James Dougherty (later
divorced), Robert F. Kennedy, married Joe DiMaggio (later divorced), married
Arthur Miller (later divorced). It is said she had married and divorced
these men because she had a void of a lonely childhood and wanted to fulfill
them with everything she did not have. Monroe was found dead on August 5th,
1962, from an overdose of barbiturates. She was naked, on top of her
telephone in her bed, and was found by her housekeeper Eunice Murray.
Whatever the truth about that night, Marilyn Monroe was dead, at the age of
thirty-six. Rumors have flown since. Some say it was the affairs of the
Kennedy’s, Mafia involvement in her death, a murder or a cover-up. Marilyn
was buried at Westwood Memorial Cemetery. |
