Brigitte Bardot was born on September 28, 1934 in Paris, France. Brigitte's mother encouraged her to take up music and dance, which she proved to be very skillful at. By the time she was 15 years old, Brigitte was attempting to model. Her beauty was readily apparent that she later attempted films. In 1952, she appeared on screen for the first time as Javotte Lemoine in Le Trou Normand. Brigitte Bardot was the first foreign-language star ever to attain a level of international success. Bardot's popularity with American audiences was unprecedented for a non-English speaking actress. Bardot was the very definition of an erotic French sex kitten. At age 22 she became the very symbol of sexual temptation when the world saw her nude and lying on her stomach in the first thirty seconds of "And God Created Woman" in 1956. Though she became internationally famous, the role brought many annoyances. Paparazzi were constantly hounding her with their cameras and fans were always entering her house or onto the grounds. The success did not make her happy. Bardot attempted suicide on her 26th birthday. By 1983, she had tried to commit suicide two more times. She has once said, "I have been very happy, very rich, very beautiful, much adulated, very famous and very unhappy." In 1973, she retired from the movies, though she has continued to speak in public and appear in documentaries to promote animal rights. A major animal-rights advocate, she fills her home with pets. More recently Bardot has lost a considerable amount of sympathy from her fans due to her now-frequent anti-Muslim, anti-gay and anti-Immigrant outbursts. |
