Renaissance

Write a 1-page report describing how northern Italy gave birth to the Renaissance.  (See BB Ch 12, Les 2; OB p. 435-437)

Create a page of da Vinci’s notebook using the “Leonardo da Vinci’s Notebook” Handout.  Be sure and read all of the directions BEFORE you begin!! Be sure and read all of the directions BEFORE you begin!!

YOU are a news reporter in the year 1348.  Write a 5 paragraph news article on the Black Plague.  Just the Facts…do not make it personal.  Be sure to include the possible causes, symptoms & cures of the time.

Examine various paintings, sculptures, & buildings done during the Renaissance.  Choose 1 of your favorites & identify features that reflect Renaissance ideas & styles. Include a picture of the work you’ve chosen. (Start with OB Ch 13, Les 2)

Create a Venn Diagram comparing and contrasting Northern European humanism and Italian humanism.  (See BB Ch 12, Les 2 and 4, OB Ch 13 Les 1 & 2)

Study the pictures in BB Ch 12-13 & OB Ch 13. Write a 10 sentence description about your life as if you lived in Europe during that time period.

Reformation

Create a list of reasons behind the spread of Protestantism.  (See BB p. 344-347)

Complete the "Christian Churches in Europe, 1600” map.  Use color codes and include a key.  (See p. 352 BB)

Create a Venn Diagram comparing and contrasting the beliefs and practices of early Protestant groups with those of the Catholic church.  (See BB p. 338-341; OB p. 479-484)

Write a 1-page report explaining the importance of Martin Luther’s reforms and the church’s reactions.  (See BB p. 342-345; OB p. 463-464)

Write a 1-page report on how the Counter-Reformation revitalized the Catholic church and the forces that encouraged the movement.  (See OB p. 473-475; BB p. 351-352)

Write a 1-page report listing the internal and external causes of the decline in power of the Catholic Church.  (See BB p. 338-339)

EXPLORERS

Complete the “Great Voyages of Discovery” map.  Use color codes and include a key.  (See p. 493-494 OB)

Draw pictures of each of the technological advances made at Henry the Navigator’s school. Include a written explanation on how each works. (OB Ch 15, Les 3; BB Ch 14, Les 2)

Create a foldable. Identify & give the contributions of each of the following:  John Cabot, Christopher Columbus, Bartolomeu Dias, and Ferdinand Magellan.  Include color & a picture of each explorer.

Complete the “Exploring Explorers” Handout.

Read: “Life on a Ship” p. 518 OB. Write a 1-page diary entry as if you are a sailor aboard a 16th century ship.  Describe daily life on the ship.  Include a full-sized drawing.

Write a half page report on the impact the early Spanish contacts had with the Native Americans.  (See BB p. 379-381)

SCIENTIFIC REVOLUTION

Write a 1-page report identifying and describing the Scientific Revolution.  (See BB p. 353-355; OB p. 497-499; 502-507) 

Read: “Making Hypotheses” BB p. 357.  Complete the “Try It” and “Apply It” activities.

Read: “Scientific Discoveries” p. 358-359, BB.  Answer questions 1-3.  Study the chart and list the advantages and disadvantages. 

Create a 3 column chart with these categories:  Astronomy, Mathematics, Medicine.  Identify as many scientists, of the time, who will fit into these categories.  (See OB Ch 15 & BB Ch 13)

Read p. 505 OB   DESIGN & COLOR your own invention.  It should be an invention that has never been invented and would be helpful to you.  Include a paragraph explanation of your design & a full sized drawing.

Write a 1-page report focusing on why the Catholic church was threatened by Galileo’s ideas.  (See BB p. 354-355; OB p. 504)

Enlightenment

Create a foldable containing the terms & names on p. 535 & 543 OB.  Include the term, glossary definition, and a detailed colored picture.  (There are a total of 7 terms.)

Write a half-page report explaining the role of  women during the Age of Enlightenment. (See OB p. 538-539)

Create 4 flashcards for Voltaire, John Locke, Montesquieu, & Rousseau.  Include their name, a picture and 3 question related to his philosophy on the front and the answer on the back. NO YES/NO or TRUE/FALSE answers!  (See BB p. 479; OB p. 536-537)

Complete the “Enlightenment Thinkers” Handout.

 

Write a 1 page report showing how the Declaration of Independence incorporated many Enlightenment ideals.  (See BB p. 480-482 and p. 509-512;  OB 507, 546)

Research Descartes & his philosophy. Design a T-shirt with the phrase, “I think, therefore I am” Include symbols, images, &/or expressions that represent Descartes beliefs. Write a paragraph explaining your choice in symbols, etc.  (Use OB p. 506 as a starting point)

Hodgepodge

Make a list of at least 10 important people from the Renaissance Period (1300s-1500s) & write a 5 sentence description of each.  You MAY NOT use people mentioned on this Grid or any Explorers.

Complete the Timeline Handout.  Be sure and read the directions BEFORE you begin!!

DO NOT use the timeline(s) in the book! The timeline must be neat & legible in order to be given credit.

 

Complete “Italian City-States, 1454” map.  Use color codes and include a key.  (See p. 317 BB)

Complete the “The Great Plague” map. Use color codes and include a key. (See p. BB 311)

Draw a diagram that depicts Ptolemy’s view of the universe & another diagram that shows today’s view of our solar system.  Write captions that describe how the diagrams are similar & different. (See Ch 15 OB, p. 353 BB)

Write 5 (7th grade standard) paragraphs on 5 note cards on the contributions of each of the following:  Michelangelo, Brunelleschi, Da Vinci,  Brueghel, and Jan Van Eyck.  Include a picture of each artist.
