Thomas Mifflin was a Quaker,  a patriot, a statesman, and much more. He rose up the ranks to major by the time George Washington resigned. I will start with his life as a patriot. He was the fourth generation of his family to live in Philadelphia. His family had achieved high ranks among the Quakers. His father was a city alderman and a trustee to the College of Philadelphia. At a young age, Thomas apprenticed himself to a local businessman and completed his training shortly after a trip to Europe to see international trade. Thomas and his brother formed an import and export business in 1765. He later married a distant cousin and the two became one the most important couples in Philadelphia. He later served as a soldier in the Continental Army. He was had a major part in creating Philadelphia's army. He volunteered to join the army and was elected senior major in the city's 3rd battalion. He was the exiled from his Quaker church. He played a major part in many of the famous campaigns of the revolutionary war. He was the governor of Pennsylvania after the war. He was present at the Continental Congress meetings. He served as president for 3 years.
