Legislative Assistant

Thomas Mifflin was born on January 10, 1774.
He graduated from what is now known as the University of Philadelphia, then went into the merchant business. After becoming a merchant, Mifflin developed a commercial business with his brother George Mifflin. By the time he married in 1765, he had become a member of the American Philosophical Society. Although he was in the Continental Congress, Mifflin left to join Continental Army. In addition to his many titles, Mifflin was a part of the Religious Society of Friends. He was expelled though, because he was in the army, and being in the army contradicted the pacifistic of Quakers. I believe Thomas Mifflin had planned to stay in the Army after being expelled but the Continental Congress was having a hard time finding a replacement, so in all he decided to go back. Some of the many accomplishments of Thomas Mifflin were: serving two terms in the Continental Congress, serving in the Pennsylvania General Assembly, he was a delegate in the United States Constitutional Convention in 1787, as well as a signer of the Constitution. He was also on the Supreme Executive Council of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. In addition to that, he was elected President of the Council on November 5, 1788. What's more, he became the last President of Pennsylvania and the first Governor. After that, he returned to the slate legislature, where he diligently served until his death the following year. In all, Thomas Mifflin did man great things throughout his lifetime. He served faithfully to his country for almost all of his life. Thomas Mifflin was a true patriot and for that, we salute him; he was the first president and the first governor of this glorious country. By the end of his life, Thomas Mifflin had a wife, kids, and several titles that meant a lot to him and his family. Thomas Mifflin was a true PATRIOT.
