Welcome to my webpage.  This part of the website will inform you about the glorious Articles of Confederation.  Remember?  The thing that your 8th grade Social Studies teacher would talk about for hours and hours, and of you did not answer a question about it right, they just lost all faith in humanity?  Remember?  Well if you do not, I guess that it is o.k. because I am now going to go all over it again, isn’t this going to be exciting?  First things first, the Articles of Confederation was passed by the congress on November 17, 1777 and was ratified by the states on March 1, 1781.  The Articles gave the most important powers to the states and the least important ones to the national government, sort of the opposite of what you probably expected.  The reason that the congress passed this sort of document was because they thought that a strong government would lead to tyranny.  Would it also make sense to you to that a government with a lot of power would try to get more?  Some of the powers that the government had were the choice to send anyone who was guilty or charged with a high misdemeanor to a prison and so forth.  However, the states had a lot of important powers which included the right set taxes, enforce national laws, and so forth.  Well, there you are, now you can be one of the many people who know about the Articles of Confederation.
