Believe it or not the Studebakers were wagon makers in German. After migrating to America, the Studebakers set up a small blacksmithing shop. After many years the Studebakers began producing wagons. There wagons were made with top quality materials. They also worked hard to make sure their wagons were the best on the market. The Studebaker motto was to "Always give more than your promise."  By holding to this motto, the Studebakers were highly successful. Before World War One they were the largest wagon makers in the world. They supplied the Allies with the highest quality wagons they could make. The tradition continued and the company was passed from father to son. The company grew and gained control of the horseless carriage market. Yes the first cars. They built these cars with the same hard work and dedication they did their wagons. The Studebaker Company purchased several smaller car companies and began producing more cars. During the Great War, Studebaker made many trucks, jeeps, and vehicles to help with the army's effort. After the war Studebaker produced some fine automobiles. Their designs were cutting edge for the time, but eventually they meet their demise. Studebaker also was on the cutting edge of technology. In the early 20th century they were producing electric cars. Studebaker's last car rolled off the assembly line in 1966. They will always be remembered as the wagon makers which lasted over 100 years. Their contributions to styling, safety, and automotive engineering will mark their effect on history.
