Principal's Message Report Card Time:
Children go to school to "work" at the job of learning. As learners, they will progress at their own rate and learn in their own way. They need support and encouragement when learning new skills in the classroom. The report card, an evaluation of how well a child is doing his work, can be just as stressful to a child as a job evaluation can be for a working parent. There may be times when extra support and encouragement are needed, particularly if a child finds it hard to adjust to the first years of school.
Whether a child brings home good grades or poor grades, parents should acknowledge effort and remember that improvement as well as high grades mean academic success. The child's strong points should be stressed
and ways discussed to help in weak areas. Above all, parents should never ridicule, criticize, or threaten. Parents should use only constructive criticism. They should strive to build the child's
confidence and feelings of self-worth, as well as encourage a willingness to try harder. The bottom line is that you want your child to succeed over a lifetime of learning, not just in this class or during
that trimester. |
