Transitional Language Program

Moreno Valley Unified School District Transitional Language Program consist of two instructional delivery models:

    Alternative Language Program (ALP)

    Structured Transitional English Program (STEP)

Parents have the option to select the program of their choice through a waiver process available at all of the school sites.

Alternative Language Program (ALP) Students are taught in their primary language and are transitioned into English.

English Language Development (ELD) for English Learners is strongly emphasized using District-adopted core curriculum materials.  English Learners obtain academic access through the initial use of the primary language for the purpose of acquiring basic literacy and core curriculum concepts.  As students' English language proficiency increases, more emphasis is placed on Specially Designed Academic Instruction in English (SADIE).  This consists of modified techniques and strategies that make the content comprehensible to non-native speakers.

Structured Transitional English Program (STEP)

English Language Development (ELD) for English Learners is strongly emphasized using district-adopted core curriculum materials.  English Learners obtain academic access to the core content subjects through Specially Designed Academic instruction in English (SDAIE).  This consists of modified techniques and strategies that make the content comprehensible to no-native speakers.
