Medieval China & Japan Power Point Presentation

Directions:  You and your partner will be creating and presenting a Power Point Presentation describing and explaining Medieval China and Japan. This paper will explain the exact requirements and grading criteria for the assignment.

(If you do not have permission to use the computer, you are still required to complete the assignment.  You will gather the same information, but will deliver that information on paper.  As you read the directions, substitute the words in brackets for your instructions.)

The Assignment

Your presentation will have the following elements:

1.      Title slide [page], which includes the names of you and your partner, the date you finished the project, and a title that says Medieval China.  It should contain a graphic or picture relating to China.

2.      A slide [page] about Confucianism in China during the Mongol Dynasty.  (Tell what Confucianism was like during the Sung and Mongol periods.  What influenced Confucianism?)

3.      A slide [page] telling about the following achievements in Medieval China:  tea, the manufacture of paper, wood-block printing, the compass, and gunpowder.  Tell what each achievement was and why they were important.  (You may use more that one slide.)

4.      This slide [page] will be your second title slide.  You do not need to put your names on it.  This slide will say Medieval Japan.  It should contain a graphic or picture relating to Japan.

5.      A slide [page] explaining who Prince Shotoku was and what Japanese family life and society was like in Japan during his reign.

6.      A slide [page] explaining Japanese Buddhism.  (How did Buddhism develop in Japan?  What do Japanese Buddhists believe?)

7.      A slide [page] explaining the Japanese feudal hierarchy including Shogun, Daimyo, and Samurai.  Describe the Japanese military society of 12th century Japan and the role of the samurai in that society.

8.      A slide [page] describing the literature, art, and drama in Medieval Japan, and what are their lasting effects today?  (You may use more that one slide.)

9.      A bibliography slide [page] that lists where you got your information.

Books:  Angell, Pauline.  To The Top of the World.  New York:  Rand McNally, 1964

Websites:  www.matthewbenson.com/discovered2.htm

10.  Pictures or clip-art that illustrates your content placed throughout the project (not just on one page)

Remember that all information must be in your own words in order to receive credit for your work.

After creating your presentation, you will play it and read it to the class, answering any questions other students have for you.

The Grading

This project will be worth 180 points.  See the rubric on the back of this paper for details.
