AFRICAN MASK

PROJECT

 

You have a choice:

            A.  You can do a current event for Friday, April 2^nd, 

                                                OR

            B.  You can do this project instead.

Either way you have to do one or the other assignment…both are worth 20 points, this is NOT an extra credit.

 

The leader of your village has asked you to design a mask to represent your village.  This is a very honorable position because only the best artisans are considered.  You will not let your people down.

 

Your mask must be three dimensional.  You may use a plastic gallon container, paper mache over a balloon, a brown paper bag, or anything else you can think of.  Look around the house, be creative, and have fun!

 

You will receive extra credit if you wear your mask in class on the due date:

 

           

 

Answer these questions on a separate piece of paper.  (This is also due on the due date.) :

 

1.  Is the mask of a human, animal, bird, fish, or supernatural entity?

2.  Is the image powerful?

3.  Is the image frightening?

4.  What overall impression or feeling does the mask convey?

5.  When do you think this mask would be used?  Why?
