The Articles of Confederation had many weaknesses. Such as, nine out of thirteen states needed to pass a law, which meant very few laws would get passed out. The government could not tax so they couldn’t operate effectively.  Nothing could ever get done because the president couldn’t carry out laws. The Articles of Confederation also didn’t have any federal courts or national army. No federal court meant states fighting war against each other. No national army meant that they were vulnerable to get attack by foreign power.

The weaknesses of the Articles of Confederation led to pork barrel spending. The meaning of it was government giving people pork in exchange for their political support. Such as, giving the government votes or campaign contributions.

An example of pork barrel spending was the Big Dig in Boston, Massachusetts. The Big Dib was a project to bring a highway underground. It cause over millions of dollars. The government who didn’t have enough money started to pork barrel. They gave people pork in exchange for their money. Soon the highway was a big waste of time.
